Paying for your weight loss surgery: A discussion of your insurance options

Waiting for insurance approval can be a strenuous and arduous ordeal. Nobody wants to be denied an opportunity at a second chance at life. There are things that you can do to help facilitate your insurance approval process.

  1. Check with your surgeon to make sure that they have everything they need to submit your claim to insurance.
  2. Follow up with your surgeon to make sure your paper work went out in a timely fashion.
  3. Follow up with your insurance company every few weeks to see how things are progressing.

At some point, after you have spent a considerable amount of time exploring the option of weight loss surgery, you will need to determine how to pay for the surgical procedure. While insurance coverage for weight loss surgery is widespread, it often requires a lengthy and complicated approval process. The best chance for obtaining approval for insurance coverage comes from working together with your bariatric surgeon and other experts.
